I hate, hate, hate having to write papers or essays on how ________ has profoundly affected my life. 99 times out of 100, it hasn't, I hated the experience, and just have to make something up to satisfy the professor. I'm quickly reaching the point where I might just stop and say "you know, this __________ really didn't affect me at all. I thought it was really uninspiring, as a matter of fact."

This is why the Udall scholarship applications were so difficult. You had to look up one of Udall's speeches from the 60's and write an essay on how his speech or legistation had affected your career goals. It's really disheartening to try and get money for school by writing a ficticious essay on why the donor is so great. Especially when you don't win.
