re: elections

Hot damn!

*Dems in control of the house by a wide margin (and therefore able to hold hearings on some of the events of the last 6 years)
*Sentator Rick "Frothy Mix" Santorum spanked in Pennsylvania
*A "no" vote on the SD abortion ban
*Webb just baaaarely pulling ahead in VA
*Inslee, McDermott, and Cantwell remaining in Congress
*Democratic majority among the governors

There is much to celebrate. More to come (and some wound-licking) when it's all final.

WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, intends to resign after six stormy years at the Pentagon, Republican officials said Wednesday. Word came a day after the Democratic gains in the election, in which Rumsfeld was a focus of much of the criticism of the Iraq war. Officials said Robert Gates, former head of the CIA, would replace Rumsfeld.

Earlier today, a spokesman for Rumsfeld said he'd given no indication that he would step down in the wake of Democratic election gains. The spokesman said Rumsfeld would work with Congress on Iraq but added that the focus on stabilizing the country will remain the same.

In the days leading up to the election, President Bush said he wanted Rumsfeld to stay on as defense chief until the end of Bush's second term.

"Tomorrow you're all going to wake up in a brave new world. A world were the Constitution gets trampled by an army of terrorist clones created in a stem-cell research lab run by homosexual doctors, who sterilize their instruments over burning American flags. Where tax and spend Democrats take all your hard-earned money to buy electric cars for National Public Radio, and teach evolution to illegal immigrants. Oh, and everybody's high! WOOOOOOOOO!"
