The sky was clear and blue this morning, but despite the lack of clouds, we still had a steady trickle of snow all morning. It was one of those times were the air is so cold and dry that the snow really does come down in 6-pointed flakes (which I had never seen before I came here...Seattle snow is usually too wet and clumpy), and because it was backlit by the sun tracking low in the south, it just rained diamonds all day. It just glittered and sparkled, and every drift of snow outside, upon close examination, was a heap of frozen stars.

I stayed home, cleaned house, wrote a letter, and watched the little birds figure out my new suet feeder.
